Introducing Dimensional Doilies Blog Hop/ Amazing Paper Grace

Things are not always what they appear!  When you look at this die set, you may be hard-pressed to see what it becomes but that's why we're here - bring on the inspiration!  We're so tickled to be introducing a new and unique take on doilies.  Please welcome the Dimensional Doilies Collection.  Hop through with all of our Amazing Paper Grace Creative Team to get a small taste of inspiration as well as see how each of us has used these new motifs!

Inspiration for Dimensional Doilies

Some of the first dies ever to hit the market were doilies.  They gave you a symmetrical base to put your card elements on and they simply frame a creation and draw your eye inward.  By now you probably have many flavors of doilies in your stash.  These doilies are different.   

With one pass of the die, three identical motifs are created.  These motifs have perforations and slits on each edge.  When the perforations are folded and the slits are intersected, it creates a round doily of 6 to nine pieces that has a secondary filigree layer.  The texture, dimension and pure femininity they add to a card front is gorgeous.

My Project For Today:

I'm so excited to introduce S4-1055 Starburst Petal Doily 

I really do love this particular die because I have found there is so much that you can do with it depending on how many pieces that you use.  I made a card with a very fancy flower in the center, decorated a sweet jar with them at the top and also made a butterfly with them.  How fun is that?  And i am sure that you will think of so many more things to create with it ....

For my card above i used each of the die pieces to connect on the upper flower but underneath i wanted to continue the lacy look of the flower so i also cut it in pink paper and trimmed off the sides so that i could lay them out slightly larger and create a second layer of flower.

And then i needed something to finish the center so i cut and embossed the gold paper i used with one of Becca's flower dies and finished that with a pretty rhinestone.   I hope you like it as much as i do.....

Here are the dies in the set.  You can cut three at one time and there is also one that removes so that you can have a solid version to layer under the doily top.

And this is my Butterfly that i created.  I used 4 of the doily pieces and then added that cute APG tag in the center for the body.  The box i made as a slider so that i can open it and fill with some treats or a gift card or maybe even both.  My mom loved Butterflies so this one is in memory of her.  

And then i got to thinking how fun to add these to the top of a pretty glass jar to decorate it.  Mother's Day is coming and you could make up some of your moms favorite treats and put them inside this pretty jar with the card to surprise her.  It kind of looks like fairy wings I think.  So cute!

And this is the top.  Be sure and always pull out your other APG dies to add in to the mix when you create with all the new ones that come out.  They are designed to compliment one another so you can get so much life out of them when you do it.  This circle die is from the Candlewick Collection and i think it works really nice together.

Here's My Die of the Month Make:

This month's die is called  "Christmas Village Vignette Frame Die".  If you look closely you'll notice that it looks a whole lot like the popular 3D Vignette Grand Cabinet.  That's no accident - Becca likes to make things that work together and add value to what's already in your stash.  No worries though, you don't have to have 3D Vignettes to use this die. 

 For my project i decided to create a decorative box that i could fill with little cards to put Holiday pictures and gift cards for a special person in my family.  I used traditional holiday colors and made sure that each of the colors in the different levels of the piece coordinated just right.

To make my box i measured across the bottom of the finished die and then created a short and narrow paper box that was the same width as the die so that i could attach one on both the front and back like you see above.  I made sure that i added a cute holly paper to the box first before the die so it would add another layer.  And for the front i used this adorable red plaid and gold mat cardstock to cut the center piece.   It gave it a pretty holiday feel without being too fussy.  I kept mine simple but there are lots of other fun pieces in the set that you can use to add on the little cards if you want and i think i will go back and make a few of them up with the trees and houses later.

For the cards i measured inside the box and just under the corner of the die front.  Then i doubled it to make folding cards and decorated them with pieces of the die and pretty papers.  You could also make little pockets inside for the gift cards if you had time.

This was such a fun project to make and I hope you get your order in quick so you can make some fun projects with yours for Christmas this year too!!

Wishing you Peace this Christmas

Welcome to my blog today on this wonderful Saturday in November.  I can't believe that the time is going by so quickly and thank goodness we have had lots of time to share ideas with you to be ready for Christmas this year.  Today i did a quick card for all of you that love 6x6 paper pads and ephemera.  I had some left from another card i shared and got out the new A charming christmas " Postman Stamp and die set" and got to work.  

Since the postage stamp die cuts out windows i used it for a base on the pink gold paper and then arranged my ephemera pieces to the left of it.  To keep the look of the black tree mixing on the card i cut the postal die in black and tucked it under the ornament like you see above.  I added 3D foam dots to make it pop more and then created a layered back round to really set off the design. 

And it took no time at all so that part i really love.  And you use the die in a different way than it was intended so that is a good thing too.  Pink cards at Christmas are really pretty and i know the perfect person for this one...... lots more to make though!!

The Greatest Gift of All

This week i am headed in a different direction for designing a Christmas card for a friend.  I am often inspired by my papers that i have in my stash so this one was actually started with the worded backround in that beautiful soft shade of red.  And on top of that i added just the small rectangle from the Charming Tag Pocket to create a pretty backround.  I cut 6 of them in white and attached them like you see on the card above.  Easy peasy so far right?

Then on top of that i cut/embossed the middle size Hemstitch oval in the same white and stamped a sentiment on the top in black Versafine ink.  I then attached it with 3D Foam dots in the center.

And the Poinsettia flowers i wanted to be the same ivory with just a touch of the red in the centers. So I used a mixture of dark rose chalk ink and a darker red ink for the centers and i think it blended really well.  You can add lots of layers to your flowers or just a few and add pretty stamens in the center to really set them off.  I  really love the intricate lines in each of the flowers..... 

So when you get all your flowers made and they dry attach them to the bottom of the card over a small bow made with seam binding ribbon.  Then add a few rhinestones to the sides and it's ready to mail.  I really had fun with this one and i hope that you try something fun and new with your new dies from Becca and you will have to share it with us on the blog... we would love to see what you do too!!

Tis the Season Christmas card to share

It's time again for another idea for your Christmas cards this year from Becca Feeken's newest set of Christmas dies.  This one is an ornament tag die and there are lots of interchangeable pieces in it so you can get lots of different looks from one set. For my ornament i cut out the bottom piece and then added another one of the pieces to the top to make it really ornate.  The papers are a luscious pink shade of champagne copper from Kaisercraft and all the papers match it perfectly in the set.  It's something fun and different and i know the perfect someone for this card this year.  

All the charms are super cute for this set... I really love the mitten and the reindeer!

And of course always get out all your other Becca Feeken dies when you are creating because they mix so well.  I used my "Hemstitch Squares" dies to create a nice frame with my ornament and one of the snowflakes from the newest set of A Charming Christmas dies to finish the top with the ribbon.  And all of it is just layered with lots of pretty holiday papers glistening just like a special card for a special someone should be.

A special kind of birthday...

Since it's the middle of summer now and sunflowers are coming in bloom i decided to share a Birthday card i made with a really pretty shade of yellow and one of my favorite dies in the set of Romancing the Swirl set called "Hemstitch Squares".  If you haven't checked already this beauty also comes in a circle, rectangle and an oval and it's by far one of my favorite dies to mix in with the others.  You get lots of great sizes in the set so it's easy to mix them and this was fun because i twisted them to really show off the Hemstitch and added 3D foam dots to make it pop even more.

The pretty sentiment is from Penny Black and i think it's really cute to send off to a friend to make them laugh about getting older.  I also like the subtle vintage effect in the papers by Prima and it made it quick and easy to make.  The flowers on the side are also from a die set from Becca called 

"Happily Ever After".  I love that Becca adds in little bits of dies to make flowers and other cute decorations to add to our cards and projects.  She is pretty brilliant i think!

Always and Forever Wedding Card

Today is a fun day to mix up a few dies and see what happens.  This is my favorite part of creating as you probably know about me-- so i started with the "Hemstitch Squares" and cut it in white and added the "Trefoil Crest Etched Die" in white too on top to give a more fancy effect.  I guess you could say it's like gingerbread on a house when you mix them, they are fun little pieces that give it more pizazz and makes it really stand out.  Not to mention you get a lot more use out of your dies changing them up.

The paper has just bits of gold in the printed pieces in the set so i used mirror card on it to make it more styled for a wedding ... The other parts are just white cardstock and i used a good heavy weight so that it would give it more of a shadow.  If you only have thinner paper just cut it twice to make it thicker to make it stand out more.  The Always die cut is from Quietfire Design and it fits perfect!

Wedding gift mini book for the Bride

Happy Saturday to all of you and thank you for stopping over... today i have a little mini book that i made for a bride for a shower that i am going to or you can even create a fancy gift card holder for a wedding.  For my book i used the brand new Shapeabilities Swirl Booklet insert.  And if you already have the first set this goes perfect inside of it and also has an insert for the gift card or a photo on the left.  

For my sweet book i cut and embossed the gift card insert in a pretty taupe and ivory print and also stamped a nice sentiment for the right side. All of the pieces i matted in the silver cardstock that i used for the front of my mini book so that it all went together nicely. 

Here is a close up of the front so that you can see all the pretty swirled detail in the die.  I added lots of rhinestones to my book front to make it sparkle like the bride does for her wedding day.

And to finish my book i tied in some silver cording and just a bit of silk ribbon onto the side.  There is also a piece to make a closure for the book so i cut mine in silver to mix with the die front and found the perfect rhinestone to finish it off.  It's looks like a gorgeous diamond ring!!

I hope you get a chance to order this cute die and make some of these for your family and friends this year... they would be great for Birthdays and Christmas too.

Knowing you makes me happy

I am so glad you stopped today i have one of my favorite cards i made with Becca's new dies.  It is called Sweetheart Swirl and has the prettiest designs in the edges and makes up the prettiest card.  I just wanted to keep this simple so i diecut the blue papers for around the sentiment and popped them up with 3D foam so that you can really see the design.  And for the sentiment i used Versafine black on white and cut 2 circle medallions from the Graceful Doily Etched die set just to add a lacy pop of white and I also added one under the bow to give it something to anchor to.  

For the backround i used the Hemstitch Rectangle in white and then matted it with the same blue to give it a nice border around it.  And i think the sentiment pretty much says it all.  This is a very happy card to give to a very special someone.

I am so happy that you had time to stop over today and see what i created with Becca's new dies.  I wanted to make something different this week today to share so i created a Z card that folds out from the center and i used the "Flourished Square" die on the front like you see above to create a frame.  I also used one of my favorite labels called the "Francesca Label" to stamp the sentiment on.

To make my card i did a sample first to get all the sizing right and the folds in the right place on the front of my card.  The i went ahead and cut pieces of a new Simple Stories paper that had lots of pretty colors and flowers in it for the inside and the front.  As you can see the label is only glued down on one side so that you can open it yet it looks really cute closed too.

It was so fun doing something a little bit more country and not so traditional like i normally do.  And the flowers i fussy cut from the paper to tuck in around the edges.  I added a little stickles to them but i think i should have kept it being a clear color to make it pop more.   But as always it's fun to look outside the box and try something new... this would be a great style for a wedding card or graduation too.

A Special Birthday Wish

It's my Saturday die day today and time for another idea using one of Becca Feeken's newest dies from the Romancing the Swirl Collection.  

Today i have another fun and easy card to share using a few of my new favorites that are not as swirly but together they make a really pretty and feminine card for a special someone.  I started with "Hemstitch Rectangles" for the base and used a few prints but I used them under the rectangle bases just to add a pop of design.  This way it's not too overpowering and you can still capture all that beautiful detail in the dies.  

And then i used the new "Curvy Labels Etched die" over the top and did 3 layers of a muted grey patterned paper set.  This gave it a real pretty 3D effect and showed off the dies rather nicely I think.  And i added 3 rows of 1/4 inch silk ribbon under the labels and then tied a pretty bow and added it to the bottom of the top label.  That tiny little swirl is from the smallest die in the Sweetheart Swirl Etched Die set.  It gives it just a pop of pretty without adding a flower to it!

And the stamp is from a Penny Black set and i think it goes really well with the swirls of the designs.

I stamped that in my favorite black Versafine ink.  And now it's ready to send off to a special someone.  Hope you liked my inspiration for the new dies today and be sure and check back next week for more fun ideas with the new dies.

Hi ... I am so happy that you stopped by today to see what new things i have to share with Becca Feeken's newest die set called Romancing the Swirl!  I used 3 of her dies to create my card today and I am really happy with how they mixed together.  I used country yellows and blues out of my favorite Maja Design paper sets and added crisp white cardstock to cut the dies so that they would really stand out.

For my base i used "Hemstitch Squares" for 2 of the top layers and then on top of that i used a double cut of "Trefoil Crest" die set.  Then I cut out just the center fancy circle from the "Graceful Doily" die set to lay all of it on to the Hemstitch Square pieces.  It's beautiful to see how all those amazing swirls work so fabulously together like this.  And for the sentiment i stamped it in black Versafine and just clipped the edges to fit on the die.  And of course a few rhinestones to make it sparkle.

And to make it stand out more i added 3D foam squares between the layers like you see above.  With all that gorgeous detailing i don't want any of it to not stand up and be noticed.

A Grateful Heart

Hi everyone... i hope that you had the chance to join us for our hop this week to preview Becca Feekens newest line of die called Romancing the Swirl.  Each of us had the chance to use a few of the new dies to create something special to share with all of you, and wow was it ever fun!  And now we all get to mix and match and create even more inspiration for you.  

My die i chose for this week is called "Card Creator A2 Corner Cotillion Etched die set".  In this set you get this beautiful swirled back round die and the center oval and also some brand new flower dies.  I wanted to do something a little different with this one so i used muted tones of ivory and yellow and then added in some tan card stock to match a bit of print that i used for the base of the card behind the sentiment.  This really popped out the colors.

And then for the sentiment i used a matching brown ink to stamp the beautiful sentiment and inked the inside rim of the die ever so slightly with tea stained ink and a sponge dauber to give it more depth.  All the flowers are handmade so the colors for them matched perfectly with all the other gorgeous pieces in the set.  This is one of my favorites and i have lots more to share in the weeks ahead so be sure and check back soon!

The Romancing the Swirl Collection by Amazing Paper Grace for Spellbinders is chock full of calligraphic swirls and elegant, classic dreamy motifs that will be in style for years to come.  Meant to be used together across the collection, every die will be in character with another as they are combined.  Well rounded with squares, circles, ovals, and rectangles - each combination provides the ability to create a layering masterpiece adorned by the extra embellishments in the collection.

My Projects Today:

First up is S5-368 Graceful Doily

My first die is a very beautiful and intricate die set as you can see.  There are 3 gorgeous detailed parts in it and for my card i wanted to bring out the best in all of them so i cut/embossed them in a subtle gold card stock and layered and popped them up on an acetate back drop with gold writing.  Since the acetate is tricky to adhere i cut small photo corners in the gold paper and glued them to the base there and under the center of the die that i cut.  I finished it with a sheer golden ribbon and then another looped bow made of gold on top.  It truly adds a bit of elegance to an already elegant card.  

Second up is S4-928 Hemstitch Circles  

My second project uses the new Hemstitch Circles that i absolutely adore.  I am so glad that this release has two of these gems in it.  The are so versatile and you can do so much with them.  I love that this die gives you that feeling of old linen and the beautiful handiwork our ancestors used to make. It's the perfect bit of detail for all kinds of projects. 

So to make my card.... I decided to use a off white printed paper and cut the large circle and then 2 smaller ones.  Then i used some Tim Holtz ink in aqua to give it just a faint tint on each of them and off set the set on the base piece.  The smaller kraft designs come from my first die that i shared in gold.  They were so pretty i had to sneak 3 of them into this card too just to add a little more detail to the card. Then i created a cluster of flowers with one of my favorite older dies called "Isadora Trinkets".  It has the cutest flower die and makes the prettiest flowers.  I added a few roses and some silk ribbons to fill with the leaves.  And all of this was matted on soft layers of kraft, aqua and tan to finish it.

Prizes:
There are six dies that are being given away.  One name will be randomly picked from comments left on each of our six blogs on the Introducing Amazing Paper Grace - Romancing the Swirl Collection post between May 14 and May 18, 2018, at midnight US Central Time.  We encourage all of our international friends to participate!  The randomly selected names will be announced on the Amazing Paper Grace Blog on May 19th.  (All giveaways for this hop are managed by and the responsibility of Amazing Paper Grace).

Up for grabs is an Amazing Paper Grace die of your choice from the Vintage Elegance Collection, the Graceful Borders Collection, the Venise Lace Collection, the Chantilly Lace Collection, or the 3d Vignettes Collection; there will be a total of six dies and a winner can win once among all six blogs.  If your name is selected, simply claim it within 2 weeks of the announcement by sending your address through the form under the Contact Tab on the Amazing Paper Grace Blog. The dies will be mailed out from Amazing Paper Grace.
